Schools Rugby Initiative

Rugby continues to be one of the main stays of DSDYF. Together with Boyne Rugby Club, we are training 150 kids from St Paul’s N.S. to a very high standard. Now in its third year, training takes place 3 times per week at the indoor Drogheda Leisure Centre. The under 11 team is now ready for full competitive rugby.

Thank you to Denis O’Connell, Amanda Moran and their colleagues for making his possible. Thanks also to Fr David Bradley for all the work he does in coordinating these classes.

Their truly inspirational coach, Craig Mc Grath, led his team to the Towns Cup in the last 2 years. Craig is a wonderful example and a truly inspirational leader. We believe that Craig will be a highly influential character in these kids lives. We feel that there are young talents there, who if they keep up with the pace that they are at presently, will certainly play at a very high level and the Foundation looks forward to watching them grow.

MATT BURKE

Matt Burke from Rathmullen has recently been selected for the Leinster under18 squad; he shows a lot of promise and is very ambitious. We have helped Matt with assistance to join the gym and with transportation costs to Dublin where he now trains with the Leinster squad. By all accounts Matt is a very promising rugby player and no you doubt will be hearing a lot more about him in the future. We are delighted to be able to support, encourage and facilitate him as one of our own.
